Take Christ out of Christmas... Why Not?

"People are trying to take Christ out of Christmas"  A common lament from American Christians.  I say go ahead.  Let's just call it the Winter Holiday or Season's Pleasin's or the Apex of Avarice.  Whatever.  Christ came to give his life to dark world and the celebration of His birth has lost its meaning.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

I apologize to my readers if I sound bitter.  I am not.  I am tired.  I am tired of all the hype.  I am tired of single parents working themselves to death to keep the lights on, the gas for heat, and a bowl of soup for their kids and then have all the media make them feel guilty because they did not sacrifice enough for a proper Christmas.  Not just single parents either.  There are plenty of families.

I am tired of hearing Christians get all up in arms over the commercialization of Christmas and then they themselves feel obligated to take part in it. Don't blame the selfishness, greediness, and avarice (I used that word twice now) on the retailers and capitalists and be indignant about it as if you did not know that they were already that way.  Making big noises about having to buy the kids an IPhone XL579 or getting your wife that expensive jewelry which only husbands who love their wives give.

Let's just let them have their way, not participate in it, and celebrate Christ's birth by living our lives the way He showed us. Don't get me wrong, I love parties.  I love good food.  I love giving gifts.  When I can do these things.  I hate being made to feel like a loser when I can't.  No,  no one has ever overtly called me a loser for that (I have given plenty of other reasons over the years for that) but I have felt the strongly implied disapproval.

If they want to take Christ out of Christmas, let them.  He has not been in it for quite some time now.  Not by His doing either.
