This Changes Everything - How?
Usually, this time of year, I post a lament or suggestions about the Christmas season. I think I am taking a different tack this year.
Our church, The Adventure Four Square Church in Draper Utah, is doing a mini serious of sermons called This Changes Everything. The sermons are great. But the title is what has me thinking. Even if you don't believe in Jesus Christ and His Bible, you might be able to see my point. (I welcome different viewpoints as long as they are given with respect.)
Whether or not you believe in the man , His existence has been well documented and His teachings changed the world. This is so historically apparent.
I would ask my readers to think about these questions. If Christ never came what would humans be like? Would we today be revolted by slavery? Would we desire peace over war? Would the need for vengeance for all wrongs be overwhelming? Would anyone ever forgive anyone else? If you did believe in God, would you worship Him in a genuine manner that shows that you acknowledge Him as such? Would murder be considered heinous? Would the selling of young women, children, as sex slaves be so bad? So many other things as well. If you are honest with yourselves, you will know the answers.
Again, whether or not, you believe that Jesus Christ was God who became man so that we could be forgiven, redeemed, and reconciled back to God, you cannot honestly deny the effect He had on the entire world.
Remember, Jesus Christ gave us the direction and teaching of what God desires of us. Human beings messed it up in the name of God. The Crusades, the corruption of the church, abuses, judgementalism, etc. These were not God things but that of humans.
The effect of His coming, did change everything; some overnight, some over decades, some over centuries, and some still ongoing.
There is no evidence of any physical evolution of human beings. There are boat loads of evidence of the evolution of human beings in the way they treat each other. If you trace the changes through history, it becomes evident when, where, and how those changes were effected.
Are we still a fallen race? Absolutely! Is there evil in the world still? Abundantly! But how much of it is recognizable as evil or even thought of being evil? Why do we see it as such when for thousands of years we did not? Yes. Some is due to the advent of technology and the great advances in communications. But when you look at it you will see that those advances only increase speed not cognition.
Like it or not, the only reason humans have changed is because of Jesus Christ coming here and teaching us. Celebrate that and allow Him to change you.
