Jesus Wept but Satan Laughed
I have been reading so many things lately that just break my heart. So many things are being done in the name of justice or because society and government believe they know what is best. The little boy in England. Abortion. Trumps family. The atrocities that celebrities commit against each other and their spouses or partners or significant others. etc. Christians pointing fingers at each other instead being on their knees. Racial discrimination both committed and fabricated. Law enforcement officers being targeted for death by criminals and the criminals are exulted. School shootings being used for political agenda with little or no care for the victims, their families, and the families of the perpetrators. Laws being passed in direct opposition to the country's constitution. Religious persecution where only one religion is being targeted. Private business owners being forced by the government to comply against their beliefs or shut down when they refuse. Pornography and many different kinds of sexual immorality is not only condoned but is celebrated. The list goes on and on.
My hope is in Christ. No question. But I am divided. I wish for Godly justice but fear it as well. Not so long ago, I was guilty of many of the aforementioned things. I desire mercy and yet would want to see these things end. I know that the Bible tells us that is going to get worse before it gets better. I also know that prayer is a powerful tool. I pray. probably not enough.
I can't imagine how much the enemy of all mankind, Satan, is overjoyed with the current condition of his hated enemy. He laughs at our confusion. He laughs at our Godlessness. He laughs at our churchy infighting. He laughs. He laughs. He laughs.
All the while, the God who became one of us, died for us, and watches us, weeps. He weeps for the murder of the innocent. He weeps for the abuse and the corruption of His children. The Bible tells us that in heaven Rev 21: 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
But that is the hope to come. Maybe soon. Maybe a long ways away. In either case, God suffers. He suffers with us. Why? Because He chose to do so. Why would an omniscient, omnipresent God do that? He knows the very number of hairs on each of our heads (Matt 10:30). So He also knows all of our sins, all of our thoughts, all of our hopes, desires, dreams, lusts, etc. He suffers at a level we cannot even fathom and chooses to do so. Again, I ask why? Love. His love. Not our feeble attempts at love. His love, which is like His mind, unfathomable. The love that allows us to be forgiven if we go to Him for mercy. The love that will suffer and wait for us (often a lifetime) to realize what He has given us and accept it.
Don't get me wrong. There will be justice. His justice not ours. In His time, not ours. This is to be greatly feared and greatly welcomed. Satan will no longer laugh. God is absolute both in love and in justice. My prayer, is that when that time comes, those whom I love will have accepted God's mercy and not have to fall under His eternal wrath. In the meantime, God continues to love, continues to suffer, and continues to wait. Please don't make Him wait for you until it is too late.
