As for Me and My House...
A few weeks ago on Sunday, during the singing part of our worship, I came under some spiritual attack. The devil tickled my mind with worry and fear. So I rebuked him in the name of Jesus Christ. It worked. The power of the Holy Spirit prevailed and the devil was rebuked and left me alone. In the process, told the devil to get out of my Father's house. When finished, a voice in my mind, I truly believe it was God's voice said with love (and maybe some amusement?),"You know, it's your house too."
Bam! I was whisked away into a whirlwind of revelation. I believe that I was called to not just further the Kingdom of God but to help secure the ground gained by teaching and discipling and preaching the Word of God. I forgot for a moment, that while Christ is the only begotten and first born son of God, through Him, I too was a son of God by adoption.
Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Therefore, God's house is my house. If God is King, then as an adopted son, I am a prince. At first, this may seem like arrogance or like assertion of privilege but that would only from a human perspective. All of my brothers and sisters in Christ are princes and princesses. God's kingdom not mankind's.
So when next you sing, read, or discuss the Kingdom of God or the house of God, remember Romans 8. God has chosen us to be his children and that He would relate to us as our father. When you are adopted into a house, you become of that house. My new name would be Peter ben Yahwey or Peter Yahweyson, or maybe Peter Von Yahwey. 😉 Actually, all of those have a nice ring to them. If you are a believer you are not just an adopted child, you are of the house of God!! Chew on that. Embrace it! Know it! Allow yourself to own it. Be careful, do become like the pharisees who saw this as a reason for pride and self exultation. God chose you. God died for you. God transformed you from creation to offspring, because He loved you as His masterpiece ( Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.) and He desired the relationship first over servant hood. He desires you over what you can do.
