Introduction

Hi,

I decided to write a blog about random stuff.  You might find poetry, you may find pet peeves, you may find movie and or music critiques.  You will definitely find respect and you will find a safe place to voice an opinion or thought if it is respectful, clean, and polite.  Here is a little blurb about me:

Howdy,

I say howdy because I have gotten away from my east coast roots. Otherwise I might say. Yo! S'up?! Yes, it is true I was born and raised in blue collar urban Philadelphia (PA not Mississippi). I graduated from Temple University in 1988 with a Bachelor's in Chemistry and went on to earn my Masters in Physical Chemistry from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City UT. While in grad school I was published in some journals and developed a patent for the stabilization of potential rocket fuels. Yes, I can say that I am a rocket scientist. My research was classified as Solid State Molecular Dynamics but that was just a nice way of saying I got to use lasers to blow things up. Cool huh?! Every boy's dream come true.

Since then I have worked in the environmental and pharmaceutical industries as an Analytical Chemist. I have worked with radioactive materials on government projects as well as served as the chemist and cofounder/captain of the emergency response team at a major water treatment plant. I worked as an analyst and the lab supervisor for the quality control laboratory for a pharmaceutical company that developed a new transport system for cancer treatment drugs. My kids when they got tired of hearing the neighbor kids brag about their dads and the money they made would say, "Oh yeah well my dad is a rocket scientist and helped find a cure for cancer!" What more can I say to that? ;) Along the way I have and still teach chemistry at the high school and college levels.

I met my wonderful wife and partner in 1990. Let her tell the story. It sounds better. :lol: We were friends at first and then got married in 1991.  We and our family are dedicated born-again Christians. But that does not stop me from enjoying Action adventure movies. I grew up loving John Wayne Westerns and War movies. I loved Errol Flynn flicks as well. I do enjoy reading, walks in the park, smelling flowers, modeling... Down feminine side! Down! Sorry got off track. Anyhow, I used to love football and ice hockey, but the strikes ended that and Wayne Gretski turned it into an actual sport! Oh well, I love my kids and I love being a grandpa. It keeps my mind young even if my body refuses to stay so.

IS there more to me than this? Yes, and I am willing to chew the fat with anyone about who and what I am. Some of it you may even believe! :lol:

This Man Knows His History...

Ever come face-to-face with your own history? Today I did.  I had the blessing and humbling honor to meet the man who was responsible for my life and the lives of my family.  Today I met Matthew Duffy, formally, Sgt. Matt Duffy. Sgt Duffy served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Why is he responsible for my family's lives?  Come with me on this incredible tale and find out.  My father, Gottfried Kligmann and his brother Samuel Kligmann were imprisoned in Dachau concentration camp after their half brother turned them in.  They were scheduled to be executed when the US Army arrived an hour ahead of schedule.  Sgt Duffy was one of the soldiers who arrived at that time. Do you Hope with expectation?

 I have been re-reading the book of Romans in the Holy Bible. There is a word that occurs 14 times that God has brought to my attention.  The word is "hope."  When God, through His Holy Spirit brings a word to my attention, I research it.  Like all Bible scholars, and wannabes (me), I went to the Greek. The word used for hope, in the Greek, is "elpida, elpidi," et.al.  This word is also translated as expected or expectation. So I contemplated (picture me in an Alistair Cooke setting, LOL) the application of the word hope.  Hope can be anything from hoping for an A on a test, a Lamborghini, a kiss, a healing, a new job, etc. But hope, as the apostle Paul meant in his epistles, was that of expectation.  Not just the hope of a maybe, but the expectation of a promise to be fulfilled.  A hope that requires faith. Faith that says not just something to which we look forward, but a trust and belief that allows you to EXPECT that it will be fulfilled....
